Map of Puerta de Tierra, located between Condado and Old San Juan. The apartment is located between the Parque Muñoz Rivera and the Capitolio.
See red dots on the satellite images below for exact position.
The Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is approx. 10 km east in Isla Verde/Carolina. The airplane symbol on this map shows the location of Isla Grande Airport from where flights to Vieques and Culebra take off. The "Muelles" on the left is where the cruise ships come in and the Club Nautico next to the San Antonio bridge hosts yachts. |

Puerta de Tierra has sort of a bad reputation because of its docks and housing projects (i.e. ssssssSSSSS shaped residential in the south-west of El Status Studio). While tourists are advised not to enter theses areas and to be aware of drug traffickers and addicts alike it is considered safe to walk along the Ave. Muñoz Rivera and Ave. Ponce de León.
It is not advisable to climb down to the ocean between the Capitolio and the Parque Muñoz Rivera. Those who do are either risk loving surfers, homeless people or people dealing with or hiding drugs.
The San Augustin Street which offers some fondas, bars and colmados (places to eat, drink, shop) should only be frequented during day time/working weeks when all of Puerta de Tierra is very vivid and you'll find the dock workers eating next to the senators and representatives, the journalists next to the beggars, the artists next to the police officers, the tourists next to the merchants. |

The accumulation of houses left from the red dot is the historic Old San Juan with the cruise ship piers on one extreme and the El Morro Fortress on the other. San Juan offers a lot of shops, restaurants, bars and of course night time activities. |

And even though the San Juan Metropolitan Area offers you 1 Mio. people and a lot to do: Don't forget to travel the island! |
